The Prematernal home provides shelter and care for expecting mothers from 58 villages in the Yukon Kuskokwim Delta. Women spend the last month of their pregnancy at the facility where they can receive special care and if needed, emergency services. The home was founded in 1971 and was came under ownership of the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation in 2004.
In 2013, the prematernal home, run by the Yukon Kuskokwim Health Corporation, was transferred to a new facility closer to the hospital. YKHC sold the old property to BCSF and used the profits to establish an area-of-interest fund. The fund will begin grantmaking in 2020 and it’s endowment will ensure the continued the support of programs for the women who stay at the home.
